PC Activists Want to Remove a George Washington Mural in San Francisco

The iconoclastic Left is now going after monuments of America’s Founding Fathers.

George Washington is in their crosshairs as the San Francisco Board of Education is floating the idea of removing a mural of Washington from a local school.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the mural’s critics point are offended by depictions of slaves and Native Americans in this mural. Additionally, this mural “traumatizes students” and “glorifies slavery, genocide, colonization, manifest destiny, white supremacy, oppression, etc” according to its critics.

The mural’s original painter, Victor Arnautoff, was a protégé of renowned Mexican painter Diego Rivera. Arnautoff was a communist but intended this mural to “provoke a nuanced evaluation of his legacy.” Historian Fergus M. Bordewich details the mural’s intent:

He included those images not to glorify Washington, but rather to provoke a nuanced evaluation of his legacy. The scene with the dead Native American, for instance, calls attention to the price of ‘manifest destiny.’ Arnautoff’s murals also portray the slaves with humanity and the several live Indians as vigorous and manly.

This is the latest in the iconoclastic Left’s attempts to erase American history. BLP reported on activists’ recent success in renaming Jefferson Davis Highway to the Richmond Highway in Virginia and a new attempt to remove a John Calhoun statute in Charleston, South Carolina.

This has become a national strategy for the Left in their efforts to spread PC culture. California is a low-hanging fruit given its already anti-freedom policies on guns and economic policy.

Starting out with confederate figures, now the Left has progressed to America’s Founders. Left unchecked, there’s no telling how much of history PC activists are willing to destroy.
