11-Year-Old Wards Off Intruder by Slashing Him in the Head with Machete

A North Carolina boy used a machete to fight off an intruder, according to local news reports.

“An 11-year-old boy in Orange County stopped the robbery in his home Friday by hitting the thief with a machete,” said ABC11. “Investigators said several people broke into the home and were trying to steal electronics. The thieves forced the 11-year-old, who was home alone, into a bedroom closet at gunpoint. Deputies say the boy, who is a star baseball player on several area teams, left the closet and found a machete in the home.”

The boy left the closet, walked into the living room, and struck one of the suspect’s in the head with the machete. The suspect kicked him in the stomach, knocking him over. The boy got up and swung the machete again, missing the suspect. He was kicked a second time, but the suspect was bleeding badly. The suspect reportedly grabbed some electronics and ran out of the home.

“Once apprehended, 19-year-old Jataveon Dashawn Hall will be charged with breaking and entering, second-degree kidnapping and assault on a child younger than 12,” the report said.

Hall was apprehended only after showing up at the UNC hospital and seeking treatment for his head injury.

But Hall reportedly slipped out of his room and left the hospital Saturday, and is now on the lamb. Hospital video showed him leaving the premises in his gown, with his head wrapped in a bandage.

“Orange County investigators, the SBI and U.S. Marshals are following up leads on his whereabouts.”
