A Massive Package of Meth was Seized at the Southern Border

On October 12, 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized a shipment of over 1,100 pounds of methamphetamine at an international border crossing in South Texas. Bob Price of Breitbart News observed that “The attempted smuggling incident took place at the Pharr International Bridge Cargo Facility.”

On October 9, several CBP officers tasked with patrolling an international cargo facility in Pharr, Texas, saw a tractor-trailer come by for inspection as it tried to enter the country from Mexico.

As an officer was completing an interview with the tractor-trailer driver, the driver was instructed to go through a secondary inspection station for continued inspection per information that Price was able to obtain from CBP officials stationed in South Texas.

According to Price, the CBP officials put the tractor-trailer vehicle through “a non-intrusive imaging inspection and a cursory search from a K-9 trained to detect drugs and human cargo.” The first inspection compelled the CBP officers to conduct a physical search of the trailer.

Upon searching the trailer, the officers discovered 468 packages of methamphetamine. According to the officers’ report, the drug packages weighed about 1,179.47 pounds. The street value of the meth packages was estimated to be around $16,512,400.

“This massive load of methamphetamine will not reach our city streets thanks to our CBP officers and their great teamwork and utilization of all available tools and resources,” said Carlos Rodriguez, port director of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

The officers ended up confiscating the drugs and the tractor-trailer. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations is now reviewing the case.

This latest meth bust should serve as a wake up call for policy makers. America’s porous borders are an open invitation for drug traffickers and other criminals to exploit. A strong border is an integral part of any political movement that purports to be pro-law and order.
