Prosecutors plan to charge Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the movie “Rust” in New Mexico in 2021, the district attorney in Santa Fe said Thursday.
The film’s armorer overseeing weapons, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, will also be charged with involuntary manslaughter in the incident, according to a statement from Santa Fe-area District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies. The charges are expected to be filed by the end of the month.

“Assistant director David Halls, who handed Baldwin the loaded gun, accepted a misdemeanor charge in a plea deal,” The New York Post reported.

Though this story is still developing, Baldwin has been in and out of the news ever since the shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins occurred.
Baldwin has made many claims about how this accident allegedly happened, including statements that suggest the prop gun went off by itself.
He also notoriously excused himself from fault by arguing he had no reason to believe the gun held live rounds.
Baldwin has routinely refused to accept responsibility for the shooting. Even though he ignored gun training requests prior to the incident.
“If any one of these three people — Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, or David Halls — had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today. It’s that simple,” special prosecutor Andrea Reeb said after Baldwin was charged with two federal counts of involuntary manslaughter on Thursday.

Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed will both be charged “in the alternative,” meaning the jury will decide which of the two charges — involuntary manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act — they are or are not guilty of. Both felony charges hold a maximum prison sentence of 18 months and a fine of up to $5,000.
“A thorough review of the evidence and the laws … I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew,” said District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies.
“On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice,” she added.
Baldwin’s lawyer is denying these charges. Claiming they represent a “terrible miscarriage of justice.”
Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyer is also saying his client is innocent.
