American-Israeli National is Killed by Hamas Militants

On December 28, 2023, the family of Israeli-American-Canadian national Judy Weinstein Haggai announced that she was killed by Hamas militants after being kidnapped by the militant group in its surprise attack on October 7.
“We are heartbroken by the murder of our mother and grandmother Judy Weinstein Haggai, an American-Israeli-Canadian citizen. Judy was a mother of four, a grandmother of seven, and an active community member of Kibbutz Nir Oz,” the family declared in a statement.
President Joe Biden issued a statement expressing his devastation with the reports of the alleged death of Haggai. Her husband, Gad Haggai, was suspected to have been killed by Hamas terrorists on October 7.
“This tragic development cuts deep, coming on the heels of last week’s news that Judith’s beloved husband, Gad Haggai, is believed to have been killed by Hamas,” Biden declared on December 28.
He continued by noting that he previously talked with their daughter. She apparently told Biden that “they have been living through hell for weeks.”
“No family should have to endure such an ordeal. And I reaffirm the pledge we have made to all the families of those still held hostage: we will not stop working to bring them home,” he proclaimed.
On December 28, the family revealed that neither her nor her husband’s bodies were ever returned to them. They ultimately prayed for their bodies to be returned.
Further, Kibbutz Nir announced Haggai’s death, describing her as a 70-year-old mother of four and grandmother of seven. Haggai was an English teacher with a specialty in teaching children with anxiety, per the statement.
Weinstein’s and Haggai’s fates were previously unknown since the couple took a morning walk when the Hamas attack roared across Israel on October 7, per a report by The Associated Press. On that day, Hamas militants took over 240 hostages and killed nearly 1,200 Israelis.
Over 20,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed in the Israel v. Hamas war, per the Gaza Health Ministry.
Israel and Hamas will be fighting each other in perpetuity, They both view the territory of Israel as their own. It’s a classic ethnic struggle over blood and soil.
With respect to the US, it should avoid getting involved in this conflict as much as possible. Sure there are substantial amounts of Israeli-American dual nationals in Israel. But these people know what they’re signing up for by living in such a conflict zone.
The US should be under no obligation to help these people. At some point, the US needs to start putting the interests of its citizens, not foreigners, first.
