A Doral, FL man has been shot and taken into police custody after opening fire inside the Trump National Doral lobby early Friday morning.
“This subject came in removed a flag from a flag pole at the rear of the complex and brought it into the hotel lobby and draped it over the counter and began to yell out anti-President Trump rhetoric,” Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said.
The man is identified as Jonathan Oddi, age 42.
After causing the ruckus, Oddi opened fire, shooting into the ceiling and chandeliers as police rushed in.
“We don’t know what his long-term intentions were but we know what he was trying to do at the time and that was engage our police officers in some sort of ambush attack,” Perez said. “He did succeed and he did lose.”
According to the Miami Herald, Oddi’s social media lists him as a South African national who works as a fitness instructor and real estate investor.
Oddi is in the hospital in stable condition.
