Arizona Supreme Court Defeats Soros-Funded Ballot Measure

The Arizona State Supreme Court has spoken! Those who are weary of powerful billionaires exercising control over electoral and political outcomes are in for some good news — a George Soros-funded ballot initiative titled “Arizonans for Free and Fair Elections” was shut down after the state Supreme Court ruled that the proposed legislation did not have enough valid signatures to be featured on the ballot in November.

According to a report by Breitbart News, well-financed activists pushing for the initiative originally submitted over 475,000 signatures.

A previous trial judge ruled that the Soros-backed measure was in the clear for November, with organizers clearing the required hurdle of 239,926 signatures by only a couple thousand votes. This ruling was appealed soon thereafter, ultimately resulting in the state’s Supreme Court ruling last Thursday that they are “unable to verify the validity rate used by the trial court.” The trial judge was then given a deadline to prove the calculation by mid-Friday. He proved unable to deliver on the request, prompting the ruling that ultimately disqualified the initiative.

“The irony is rich, because signature verification is a standard election integrity requirement,” former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, now chairman of the Center for Election Integrity at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), exclusively told Breitbart. “To have a ballot measure regarding elections not approved for the ballot because not enough legal voters supported it is precisely the sort of the thing that the Left aims to disallow. The fact that the ballot measure in question was designed to eradicate such election safeguards highlights the importance of those safeguards.”

These challenges to the Soros-funded project stemmed from a lawsuit by Scot Mussi, who serves as president of the Arizona Free Enterprise Club (AFEC). AFEC has a history in this space — the same group won another case against a different election ballot initiative back in 2011.

“This victory proves that the American people are more powerful than militant liberal activists like Soros, who is trying to fundamentally transform America,” said Blackwell. “The United States is a center-right nation, and while hundreds of millions of dark money dollars may distort democracy by astroturfing issues and gaslighting voters, the American people have enough sense and principle that such efforts can be defeated.”

Soros’ Arizona ballot measure would have brought large electoral consequences for the state. Such legislation would have repealed Arizona’s election integrity laws set up for the 2024 presidential election, according to Breitbart.

The famous Hungarian billionaire has drawn a lot of attention in American politics as of late — a previous report featured his remarks that he has “no intention of stopping” his financial support of progressive soft-on-crime prosecutors accross the nation.
