BAKED: Department of Justice Puts Forward Regulation to Reclassify Marijuana
On May 18, 2024, the Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed its move to change marijuana’s federal status. According to a report by ABC News, this move involved reclassifying weed from Schedule I to Schedule III.
The Biden regime filed a “Notice of Proposed Rulemaking” with the Office of the Federal Register, looking to reclassify marijuana, according to ABC. If this move is approved, this change in regulation would lower federal penalties connected to marijuana possession. The proposal is currently going through a 60-day public comment period. Following this period, the administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) may choose an administrative law judge to review the evidence and to put forward a final recommendation concerning the scheduling of marijuana.
President Joe Biden has manifested his support for the measure, stressing how it would rectify previous injustices connected to marijuana laws.
“Look folks, no one should be in jail for merely using or possessing marijuana. Period,” he said in a video that his Twitter account published. “Far too many lives have been upended because of a failed approach to marijuana, and I’m committed to righting those wrongs.”
Since it was passed in 1971, the Controlled Substances Act has imposed classifications on marijuana in addition to hard drugs, which includes heroin and methamphetamine. According to the DEA’s classification, Schedule III drugs are drugs that pose a medium to low risk of physical and psychological dependency for users. Such drugs are ketamine, Tylenol with codeine, anabolic steroids, and testosterone.
Back in October, the Biden regime had previously instructed the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to study the potential rescheduling of marijuana.
“In 2023, HHS conducted a scientific and medical evaluation of marijuana based on a comprehensive review of available data at that time and recommended that marijuana be transferred to Schedule III,” the proposed regulation stated, per an ABC News report. After conducting a comprehensive investigation of all the available scientific and medical data, HHS in 2023 called for the reclassification of marijuana to Schedule III.
This move is clearly a political by the Biden regime to try to get out unreliable younger voters (18-35) who have likely been alienated by the regime’s policies to back Israel. So Biden and co are trying to desperately conjure up schemes to get people to the polls.
The Drug War has ultimately had mixed results due to how it has grown the size of the federal government while doing little to curb drug consumption. A good compromise on the question of marijuana would be to kick the issue off to the states to let them determine which policies work best for them.
