Bernie Sanders: ‘Abortion Is A Constitutional Right’

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) deployed his Twitter account Tuesday to attack conservatives, and state that abortion is a constitutional right. He was responding to the Supreme Court’s historic decision stating that crisis pregnancy centers don’t have to advertise abortion to women.

The Supreme Court decision was brought about because of a law passed in California that required crisis pregnancy centers to notify pregnant women that the state provides low-cost abortion services. It would also force clinics to inform women whether the staff at the clinic are licenced healthcare professionals.

Two California clinics argued that the law limited their free speech rights by forcing them to provide information about abortion, which they oppose.

Despite the case being more about free speech than abortion, leftists like Bernie Sanders conflated the decision as an anti-abortion ruling. While the First Amendment has at times allowed limitations on speech on rare occasions, it has not been construed as to force individuals to say anything. In this case, it was argued that state could inform women about services available “without burdening a speaker with unwanted speech.”

The Supreme Court decision was a 5-4 decision, and came on the same day as the Supreme Court decision to uphold President Trump’s travel ban.

Today has been a great day for Trump supporters, and a dark and gloomy day for the #NeverTrump movement. These major decisions were only possible with the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. If #NeverTrumpers had their way, Gorsuch would never have been confirmed.
