Bernie Sanders wants to ban so-called “assault weapons.”
After the El Paso and Dayton shootings, almost every major establishment politician in D.C. was calling for some form of gun control.
The progressive stalwart Sanders was no exception to this trend.
He recently tweeted, “There are more than 5 million assault weapons out on the streets of America, which is more than the U.S. military has.”
There are more than 5 million assault weapons out on the streets of America, which is more than the U.S. military has. That is insane. We must ban the sale, distribution and transfer of assault weapons in the United States.

For the Vermont Senator, the fact that America has so many “assault weapons” on the streets is “insane.”
He then declared that “We must ban the sale, distribution and transfer of assault weapons in the United States.”
In 1994, the federal government passed an Assault Weapons ban, which Sanders voted for.
Despite the hype behind this ban, it had very little effect on gun violence.
During its time as federal law, the Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice discovered that the assault weapons ban had “no discernible reduction in the lethality and injuriousness of gun violence.”
Nevertheless, Sanders is towing the mainstream Democratic Party line on guns.
His campaign represents part of the leftward lurch the modern-day Democratic Party has taken in recent years.
None of the 2020 presidential hopefuls on the Democratic side of the aisle are good options for gun owners.
