Biden Regime Accuses Indian Government Official Of Cooking Up Plot to Assassinate Sikh Activist in NYC
United States federal prosecutors recently accused an Indian government official of hatching a plot to assassinate a Sikh activist in New York City.
These allegations were in an indictment that was unsealed on November 29, 2023 in which the US Justice Department charged another Indian national with teaming up with the official to execute a “murder-for-hire” plot. In the indictment, the Indian official was not named or charged.
While federal prosecutors did not specifically name the target of the alleged assassination plot, the Financial Times revealed that it was Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a dual US-Canadian citizen who serves as general counsel for Sikhs for Justice. This is a US-based group that forms part of a separatist movement advocating for the creation of an independent Sikh state in India called “Khalistan”.
This alleged plot is one of the latest of two cases where Indian officials have been accused of trying to carry out assassinations of Sikh activists.
Back in September Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau indicated that there were “credible allegations” that India’s government was connected to the June murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh leader, in a suburb of Vancouver. After the US indictment was unsealed on November 29, Trudeau said that the Indian government should take these allegations more seriously. “The Indian government needs to work with us to ensure that we’re getting to the bottom of this. This is not something that anyone can take lightly,” Trudeau declared. The US indictment was filed in federal court in Manhattan and asserts that the Indian government official in question — referred to as CC-1 in question — described himself as a “senior field officer” who was responsible for carrying out “intelligence” tasks. It said the official cooked up the foiled plot from India.
The official allegedly “recruited” the Indian national charged in the indictment, who was identified as Nikhil Gupta, in May. He did so by promising to drop criminal charges in India against him. Gupta was allegedly in touch with a criminal associate who he did not realize was serving as a “confidential source” for US law enforcement.
The source linked up Gupta with a purported hitman who was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.
Overall, this new development will likely fray US-India relations. Such accusations throw a wrench in the US’s efforts to woo India to act as a potential counterweight against an ascendant China in the Asia-Pacific region. Ultimately, the US should stay out of this squabble.
This controversy could be prevented if the US had no immigration from politically unstable countries like India. That way, Indian nationals living in the US would not be embroiled in political scandals that spill over into the US.
