Biden Regime Sells Critical United States Helium Stocks

The Biden regime sold off the Federal Helium Reserve on January 26, 2024. Per a report by The Daily Caller, this stockpile that the Biden regime sold off makes up 30% of the US’s helium supply.
The stockpile in question is located in Amarillo, Texas, and is made up of 425 miles of pipeline that goes through Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma, per NBC News. The deal is expected to go to the highest bidder, which is the gas company Messer in this case.
Congress first ordered the sale in 2013 under the Helium Stewardship Act. The sale was originally slated to occur in 2021 but experienced several delays. The Bureau of Land Management stated the legislation “seeks to mitigate a helium shortage by enabling the Secretary of the Interior…to continue to sell crude helium from the Federal Helium Reserve.”
Medical experts are particularly concerned with this helium sale due to how helium is critical for the operation of MRI machines.
Soumi Saha, the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs at Premier Inc. said to NBC that while MRIs won’t be immediately deprived of power to work, “we are stressing about this shortage.”
Premier Inc. works with hospitals and helium suppliers.
“From a health care perspective, MRI machines are the No. 1 concern,” Saha added.
Saha believes the sale of helium reserves could exacerbate the current helium supply chain shortage.
Other gas experts believe that this sale could cause other problems related to Helium production.
“They’re creating an unforced error,” CEO of the Compressed Gas Association Rich Gottwald said to Politico. “The system’s going to have to shut down because of these issues.”
The Biden regime delayed the sale following the manifestation of Gottwald’s concerns in 2022.
That said, a spokesperson for the US Interior Department, argued that the sale would not have an impact on the helium supply, per a report by NBC News.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Interior Department, however, said the sale would not impact the helium supply, according to NBC News.
“Sale of the reserve to a private party, as Congressionally mandated by law, is not expected to meaningfully change the availability of helium.”
The country’s with the largest helium reserves can be found in
Algeria, Qatar, Russia and the US.
The harsh reality is that under the Biden regime the country’s energy sector has taken a beating. Whatever gains the US has made when it comes to its expansion of energy production starting in the early 2010s up until the 2020s have largely evaporated under Biden’s watch.
For the US to have economic stability, it needs to have a robust energy sector. The best way to secure that is through the implementation of free market policies — wide-scale deregulation— in energy affairs.
