Biden Regime Warns Government Agencies About Potential Shutdown
On January 12, 2024, the Biden regime notified several agencies to get ready for a potential government shutdown with House Republicans generating major gridlock over disagreements about government spending.
The Office of Management and Budget informed agencies to prepare their plans for how they will function if a pause in government funding takes place that could have thousands of federal workers furloughed or compelled to work without compensation and some government services halted.
Some of the agencies likely to be impacted by the potential partial shutdown are the departments of Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, Transportation and Energy.
These instructions come at a time when conservatives have thrown a fit about a deal on total spending levels that House Speaker Mike Johnson — a Republican— hammered out with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer — a Democrat. Schumer and Johnson reached an agreement with respect to a $1.66 trillion spending cap for the present fiscal year. However, spending hawks in the House want at least $70 billion in spending cuts.
Agencies such as the Department of Defense, would have their funding frozen if a spending bill does not get signed by February 2. The US is clearly facing an institutional crisis where it will soon start having trouble keeping the lights on.
At some point, the US’s leadership class will need to actually exercise fiscal restraint and get their priorities straight.
