Biden’s Title IX Changes Are “Blurring And In Effect Erasing Women”

The Biden administration is preparing to make changes to Title IX that some parent organizations believe are “blurring and in effect erasing women.” They also say that these amendments to the language would ultimately spell danger for students.
Before Biden took office, Title IX’s sex-based protections were linked to the definitions of “biological sex, male or female” under Former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
In March of 2021, President Biden signed an executive order to review these protections. In hopes of looking more closely at the role of gender identity.
Now, Biden and his administration are aiming to change the definition of “sex” to include “gender identity.”
As Moms for Liberty co-founder Tiffany Justice put it: “We think it really is the erasure of women in general.”
Justice added, “Our concern is that this will open the door for boys who claim to be girls and vice versa, to be allowed access to areas where the other gender should not have any type of access.”
The administration’s new rules are expected to reduce liability for schools while still protecting victims of discrimination. But they are more widely seen as an attempt by Biden to boost his popularity and increase his unprecedented progressive status amongst Democrats.
His administration has not released any information on when the new rules will be released. But Justice says she and other parents are prepared to fight back – and have done so already by organizing twenty-seven parents’ rights organizations that represent almost 400,000 members across the country.
Collectively, the members sent a letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to express their concerns about the changes.
“We represent parents, grandparents, and concerned citizens across the country who are worried that the forthcoming rule changes are a politicized effort to placate activists,” the letter read.
“In fact, the sweeping changes to Title IX that you are reportedly set to announce would erode the very rights that protect all students – regardless of sex – and ensure a safe and equitable learning environment,” it continued.
It’s worth noting that not everyone is on board with the changes. In fact, many believe that the administration is taking things too far.
“There are real victims of discrimination out there, and this just isn’t one of them,” said Jonathan Adler, a Case Western Reserve University law professor who specializes in administrative law.
“This seems like an area where people’s political priors are driving their perception of the world, not their experiences with discrimination,” he added.
Despite these concerns, it seems that Biden and his administration are pressing ahead with the changes – much to the dismay of many parents across the country.
This June marks the 50th anniversary of Title IX being passed into law.
