Border Emergency: Border Patrol Chief Claims US is Set to Have 1 Million Migrant Encounters in 6 Months

Is America about to face a border crisis?
Per Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz, the United States is projected to hit one million migrant encounters thus far in Fiscal Year 2022.
According to these figures, continued migrant flows are already on pace to outstrip 2021’s shocking numbers.
“Probably in the next two or three days we’ll get over a million encounters or apprehensions along the southwest border,” Ortiz said during a border security conference in San Antonio, Texas. The present fiscal year started in October.
Per Ortiz’s account, Border Patrol is having problems with keeping sufficient people on staff. Ortiz added that the current pandemic is creating additional staffing challenges and he observed that “every sector is busier than they were back in ‘21.”
On top of that, Ortiz stated that agents have apprehended migrants from 157 countries. Border security is not just a Western Hemispheric crisis but one that’s global in character.
In February, there were 164,973 encounters which was a marked increase from 101,099 on February 21. According to a Fox News report, “The February numbers mean that there were 838, 685 encounters since the fiscal year began in October.”
Although March’s figures have not been published, they are expected to surpass February’s numbers, which bring the number of encounters for the current fiscal year to over 1 million. And there’s still only 6 months left in the fiscal year.
In the Fiscal Year 2021, there were north of 1.7 million migrant encounters. The bulk of the encounters took place in the second half of the fiscal year, with July reaching a monthly high of 213,000.
Several elected officials and immigration enforcement officials have warned that an uptick in immigration could be coming if the Biden administration commits to ending the Title 42 public health order. On April 1, 2022, the CDC announced that Title 42 is slated to end on May 23.
According to some estimates, Title 42 was used to expel roughly half of migrants encountered.
The Biden administration’s controversial Title 42 policy has divided Democrats. Elites in the party have pushed Biden to lift Title 42, while Democrats in border states have advised Biden against pursuing such a move. The 2022 midterms look very unfavorable for Democrats, with Republicans expected to make major gains. One way Republicans will likely cruise their way to power is by campaigning on border security.
“Given the impacts that changes to Title 42 could have on border communities, border security, and migrants, we urge your administration not to make any changes to Title 42 implementation until you are completely ready to execute and coordinate a comprehensive plan that ensures a secure, orderly, and humane process at the border,” Arizona Senators Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema declared in a letter they recently sent to Biden.
The Biden administration’s open border policies are causing political problems within the Democratic Party.
As a result, moderate Democrats have taken more centrist positions so as to protect themselves in the midterms, in which Republicans are expected to thump Democrats.
