Border Patrol Agent Targeted with Gunfire Near U.S. Port of Entry



Early Sunday morning, a Border Patrol agent was shot at while parked in his marked patrol vehicle near the San Ysidro Port of Entry, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

Fox 5 reported: The shooting occurred shortly after 2:15 a.m. about 1.5 miles west of the San Ysidro border crossing and immediately north of the U.S.-Mexico international boundary, the agency said.

U.S. Customs and Border protection reported multiple bullets shit into the driver’s side of the vehicle, coming from the Mexican side of the border.

The agent was not hurt, but immediately drove to a more safe location until Mexican authorities were contacted and able to assist in the shooting.

Originally, two suspects had been taken into custody, but one suspect was released, while the other had been in possession of the handgun during the time of the shooting.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the incident.
