BREAKING: Beto O’Rourke To Challenge Texas Gov Abbott
Former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, a Democrat, is reportedly preparing a bid to challenge Republican Gov. Greg Abbott to become the next governor of Texas in 2022.
O’Rourke, a former congressman from El Paso, Texas that served three terms, lost a previous bid for U.S. Senate against Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018 despite raising a record-shattering $80 million in the race that garnered national attention.
Beto later went on to fail in his bid for the 2020 Democrat Party nomination for president.
The former congressman plans on attacking issues related to abortion, COVID-19, and illegal immigration.
“We hope that he’s going to run,” Gilberto Hinojosa, the state chair of the Democratic Party, told Axios. “We think he’ll be our strongest candidate. We think he can beat Abbott because he’s vulnerable.”
Abbott’s “prohibition against mask and vaccination mandates have not gone over well with Texans,” Hinojosa continued. “And with the abortion law, Republicans have raised the anger level of Texas women higher than anyone has ever seen before.”
O’Rourke has also touched the hot button issues of second amendment rights in the past, famously angering millions of Americans with his promise to do an illegal nationwide gun grab on firearm owners throughout the nation.
“Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” exclaimed Beto enthusiastically.
The office of Texas Governor Abbot was reportedly reached out to for comments but did not return the request.
