BREAKING: Texas School Shooter Released On Bail — One Day After Teacher And Students Shot
The Texas student who allegedly shot and injured 4 people at his high school, including a teacher, was sprung from jail on Thursday afternoon, the New York Post reported.
Timothy George Simpkins, 18, who attends Timberview High School in Arlington, will report to home for a house arrest after he posted $75,000 bond at Tarrant County Jail, news station WFAA reported.
Simpkins can be seen following a group of two from a jailhouse into the back seat of a white Mercedes sedan following his exit from the courthouse. He will reportedly have to underdog drug and alcohol tests and wear a GPS monitoring device.
Attorney Kim T. Cole, a man representing Simpkins, attacked reporters outside the jail for supposedly portraying the dangerous incident as a “standard-issue school shooting.”
“There are numerous school shootings that have occurred across this country which are tragic. All school shootings are tragic,” Cole said. “However, in this situation, this was not someone who was just out to go and shoot a school and had made up their mind [and said,] ‘You know hey I’m upset and I’m just going to shoot anyone I see.’”
“That was not the situation here. So I request the media correct their narrative with regard to what happened, and that you all respect the family’s privacy,” she continued.
A family spokeswoman said that Simpkins was acting out of self-defense after being robbed and targeted by bullies.
The incident appeared to be very harrowing for those involved, with four people injured and many more jarred by the violence. A student at the high school discussed his account of the day’s events, specifically mentioning the bravery of his own injured teacher. “He actually texted the class group chat that he’s in stable condition and he’s fine and he loves us,” Marshall said. “That’s Mr. Pettitt for you.”
