Weinstein was one of the first cultural elites to face reckoning for sex crimes.

Elite filmmaker Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of third-degree rape and criminal sex acts in a New York trial that followed a torrent of sexual assault allegations againts the New York producer.

Weinstein’s conviction was announced by a jury at the Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday following five days of deliberations.

Sex assault allegations against Weinstein- formerly one of the most powerful film makers in the American cinema industry- are considered to have largely began 2017’s #MeToo movement.

Up to 80 women have accused Weinstein of a litany of sex crimes against them. Only a few victims have arranged to press charges against the longtime Miramax executive. Weinstein generally maintained his innocence, claiming that his sexual interactions with aspiring actresses were consensual. Victims have painted a far different picture, accusing Weinstein of using his position of power within the film industry to impose his will upon them.

Weinstein’s convictions could ensure the producer will spend the rest of his life in prison, facing up to 25 years behind bars for his sex crimes. The Hollywood elite was described as having reacted to his watershed conviction without emotion.

The convictions won’t do much to restore the tattered reputation of America’s left-wing film industry, but perhaps they will place in a new fear in unaccountable industry executives who seek to use their cultural power to sexually abuse with free reign.

Federal prosecutors are alleging that a Netflix star who campaigned for Joe Biden committed a multitude of sex crimes against underage boys, in one incident assaulting a 15-year old boy in a public bathroom.

Jerry Harris is being charged with assaulting ten boys, and prosecutors are arguing that he “exhibits all the signs of a serial child predator” who either “wanted to be caught or he simply cannot control his impulses.

Harris is most known for his appearance in Netflix’s Cheer documentary about competitive cheerleading. He recently appeared in a digital campaign event with Joe Biden, in which the Democratic candidate asked for his support in turning out young voters in the November election.

Harris was arrested and charged last month with producing child pornography following a federal investigation, and new charging documents in his case accusing him of even more child sex crimes. A Tuesday memo from Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Parente states that Harris has admitted to sodomizing and raping a 15-year old child during conversations with law enforcement, and that authorities are currently evaluating further criminal charges against him.

Parente argued Tuesday for a magistrate judge to revoke Harris’ home detention as he awaits trial on the child pornography charges, stating that home confinement is “simply not enough to protect the community from this child predator.

Harris, who allegedly requested and procured sexual images from at least 9 minors through Snapchat, is being sued by two alleged victims in civil court for damages.

Harris’ arrest on serial child sex crimes charges comes weeks after Netflix released the film Cuties, which features minors dancing in a sexually charged manner. The streaming giant has denied that the film is obscene and indecent, even after a county in Texas indicted the company for obscenity in publishing the film.
