BUSTED: Hollywood Elite Harvey Weinstein Found Guilty of Rape, Sex Crimes

Elite filmmaker Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of third-degree rape and criminal sex acts in a New York trial that followed a torrent of sexual assault allegations againts the New York producer.

Weinstein’s conviction was announced by a jury at the Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday following five days of deliberations.

Sex assault allegations against Weinstein- formerly one of the most powerful film makers in the American cinema industry- are considered to have largely began 2017’s #MeToo movement.

Weinstein’s convictions stemmed from allegations of assault from two actresses, Miriam Haleyi and Jessica Mann. The mogul was actually found not guilty on three other felony charges, which were the most serious he’s faced in the sex crimes trial.

Up to 80 women have accused Weinstein of a litany of sex crimes against them. Only a few victims have arranged to press charges against the longtime Miramax executive. Weinstein generally maintained his innocence, claiming that his sexual interactions with aspiring actresses were consensual. Victims have painted a far different picture, accusing Weinstein of using his position of power within the film industry to impose his will upon them.

Weinstein’s convictions could ensure the producer will spend the rest of his life in prison, facing up to 25 years behind bars for his sex crimes. The Hollywood elite was described as having reacted to his watershed conviction without emotion.

The convictions won’t do much to restore the tattered reputation of America’s left-wing film industry, but perhaps they will place in a new fear in unaccountable industry executives who seek to use their cultural power to sexually abuse with free reign.
