Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Issues “Call To Arms” Over US Supreme Court

On Monday night, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted: “To my friends in the LGBTQ+ community—the Supreme Court is coming for us next. This moment has to be a call to arms.”

She added, “We will not surrender our rights without a fight—a fight to victory!”

Many on both sides of the aisle denounced Lightfoot’s comments, equating them to a call for an insurrection.

All while pouncing on the hypocrisy between the Mayor’s Monday night comments to what she said about the January 6th riot at the US Capitol.

In contrast, Lightfoot tweeted 2 years ago, “I am in disbelief with what is unfolding in D.C. right now. President Trump and his enablers incited this violence.”

Shame on every elected official in Congress and elsewhere who fomented this anti-democratic insurrection by extremists,” she continued. “This is not democracy. This is a disgrace.”

Now it seems as though the ends justify the means, which is why Lightfoot (along with other prominent Democrat leaders and talking heads) is so comfortable escalating her rhetoric to spark a public reaction in her favor.

A call to arms is no joking matter. And it’s safe to bet that had a Republican said this sort of comment when Donald Trump was still president, Democrats would be calling for that person’s removal instantly.

Remember: Twitter suspended Trump after the January 6 riot saying, “After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Lightfoot’s tweet surely violates the “violence” category, but don’t hold your breath awaiting her account removal or suspension.

We have written at great lengths here at Big League Politics about the extremist rhetoric coming from Democrats regarding the potential strike down of Roe V. Wade.

For example, despite protests outside the homes of the “six extremists” Justices’ who are in favor of the overturn of Roe, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) applauded the “righteous anger” of abortion rights activists earlier on Monday.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has ignored the unprecedented leaked draft opinion completely, and instead pivoted toward a position of codifying abortion into federal law.

On top of all that, other Democrats have simply used this opportunity to smear Republicans and fuel up much-needed outrage just in time for the 2022 midterms. Proclaiming this fight to be a “war on women.”

This strategy is not new, of course. The Democratic Party has long used the “war on women” talking point to great success. As it’s a way to make their base angry, while also energizing women who may not have previously been politically active.

A “call to arms,” however, is a whole different ball game.
