Citing Anonymous Sources, Vanity Fair Pushes More Russia Conspiracy

Robert Mueller, Facebook

In a piece fraught with a salvo from an anonymous source, Vanity Fair suggested yesterday that Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller is preparing to hand down indictments in his never-ending Russian “collusion” investigation before the midterm elections this November.

“As the Russia investigation races toward a conclusion, however, Trump and his Republican allies are due for a reckoning,” wrote Abigail Tracy. “Mueller is reportedly winding down his obstruction probe—an interview with Trump is likely to be the capstone to that investigation—and moving on to whether there was an underlying crime to cover up.”

Citing anonymous sources who allegedly spoke with Bloomberg, Tracy reported that “Mueller is ‘preparing to accelerate’ his inquiry into whether members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russian nationals to tilt the outcome of the election.”

“That timeline could prove troublesome for both Mueller and the Republican Party,” she wrote. “If Mueller does, in fact, reach some kind of conclusion this fall, the result could be highly damaging for Republicans in Congress.”

Still conspicuously missing from any story reported by leftist media regarding the Russian “collusion” narrative is any evidence of wrongdoing on the part Trump or his campaign. While the implication is that where there is smoke, there must be fire, Americans have yet to see any fire. But activist journalists on the left continue reporting as if the absence of news is, in itself, news.

At the same time, they have been nearly silent on obvious anti-Trump bias at the FBI, the highest law enforcement agency in the land, which vowed to stop Trump from becoming president in the first place.

It is clear that Tracy herself believes there was a wide-ranging effort by the Russians to spread disinformation and meddle in America’s latest presidential election.

“A number of Obama officials I spoke with were quick to admit that they missed the Russia disinfo threat,” she said in April. “‘I’d be a liar if I told you I thought that the U.S. would be next,’ one said. Under Trump, there is a fear the same mistake will be repeated in 2018.”

It is also clear that Tracy views the Trump administration as either incompetent or hostile.

“Yesterday, Pompeo said Trump will warn Putin it is ‘completely unacceptable’ to meddle in our elections,” Tracy tweeted. “I’m not sold on it.”

When Mueller’s investigation will end – if ever – is still unknown. Not to worry, though. There is enough speculation to last a lifetime.
