CNN Cuts Wolf Blitzer From Daytime Slot

A familiar face at CNN is having his airtime cut back this fall.

“It’s a big day, and really a big year for Brianna Keilar,” said an Adweek article. “CNN worldwide president Jeff Zucker announced today that Keilar, the CNN Senior Washington Correspondent, will anchor the network’s 1 p.m. ET hour beginning in the fall. She will take over for Wolf Blitzer, who will continue to anchor The Situation Room weekdays from 5-7 p.m. ET.”

Keilar, who is currently on maternity leave, often filled in for Blitzer on The Situation Room, and was the lead Hillary Clinton reporter for the known fake news network during the 2016 election. Previously, she was CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent during the Obama administration.

Today, Joy Behar, a co-host of daytime television’s “The View” clowned Blitzer by saying that she turns on CNN to help fall asleep.

According to Behar, she loves Blitzer, but describes him as “hypnotic” on television.

“I can watch CNN, or something really, really boring… or some real old movie like ‘Casablanca,’ which I keep on all the time, and I can conk out for 10, 15 minutes,” Behar said.

The shakeup comes amid sliding ratings for the former news giant, for which the network has been widely mocked.

“Congratulations [Fox News]: Fox has 15 of the top 20 shows with [Sean Hannity] and [Tucker Carlson] leading the pack at 1st and 2nd respectively,” Tweeted Eric Trump. “CNN has become totally irrelevant, down 19% from last year with only 1 show in the Top 25 (#24th).”

In May, it was reported that the lowest rated primetime show on Fox News, “Fox News at Night with  Shannon Bream” outperformed the highest rated primetime CNN show, “AC360.”

“Several shows in Fox’s morning and daytime lineups also outperformed “AC360,” including “America’s Newsroom,” “Fox & Friends,” “Outnumbered,” “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” “Happening Now,” “Shepard Smith Reporting,” “Outnumbered Overtime” and “Daily Briefing with Dana Perino,” wrote the Washington Times.

CNN’s primetime viewership has declined 17% in the first quarter of this year, and not one of the network’s programs cracked the top 20 highest rated cable news shows among total viewers.

There are no immediate details regarding Keilar’s new show.
