Congressman: Stop Rashida Tlaib’s Proposed Taxpayer-Funded Trip to Palestinian Territory

Republican Rep. Brian Babin of Texas urged Democrat leaders Thursday to block new Michigan congresswoman Rashida Tlaib from traveling to the Palestinian territory on the taxpayer dime. Babin cited national security concerns.

“Please deny Rep. Tlaib’s request to sponsor and lead a CODEL to Palestine and exercise your authority as chair to deny your consent to any member of your committee who seeks your approval to participate in such a misadventure,” Babin wrote in his letter.

Tlaib’s trip would serve as an antidote of sorts to the AIPAC-sponsored trip to Israel for freshmen congressmen.

President Donald Trump cancelled Nancy Pelosi’s planned trip to Brussels, Belgium and the Middle East Thursday, one hour before her taxpayer-funded flight was set to take off from the runway.

Here is what President Trump wrote to Pelosi, explaining the cancellation:

“We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate.

“I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.

“I look forward to seeing you soon and even more forward to watching our open and dangerous Southern Border finally receiving the attention, funding, and security it so desperately deserves!”
