Cory Booker Blames Political Right for Jussie Smollett Hoax

A 2020 presidential candidate deflected a question about “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett’s faked hate crime Sunday, instead claiming that hate crimes by the political right are on the rise.

“Well, the information’s still coming out. I’m going to wait until all the information comes out from on the record sources,” said Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.). “We know in America that that bigoted and biased attacks are on the rise, in a serious way.”

Booker failed to “wait for the information” to come out when he claimed the faked hate crime was a “modern-day lynching” shortly after the story broke.

“The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching. I’m glad he’s safe,” Booker said shortly after the event. “To those in Congress who don’t feel the urgency to pass our Anti-Lynching bill designating lynching as a federal hate crime– I urge you to pay attention.”

Sunday, he doubled down, returning to the talking point that the political right is responsible for violence in America, despite the fact the Chicago Police have confirmed that Smollett is not a victim in this case.

“We actually know that in this country, since 9/11, the majority of terrorist attacks on our soil have been right wing terrorist attacks, the majority of them white supremacist attacks,” he said. “From the horrific shootings in Pittsburgh or in South Carolina church, we’re seeing these attacks on people because they’re different. We all need to come together to condemn those attacks, and the hatred and the bigotry that sources them.”

But everyone has condemned the mass shootings in both Pittsburgh and South Carolina, and it is inaccurate to associate those attacks with the political right. Nobody in right wing politics advocates for killing minorities. Booker knows that.

Still, he disgustingly scapegoated Republicans for the twisted actions of Smollett.
