Creator of Ivermectin To Release “COVID Pill” With Seemingly Similar Mechanisms

Merck, the company known for inventing the lifesaving & Nobel Prize-winning drug ivermectin, and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics said they’ve developed a drug that reduces the risk of hospitalization or death for about half of patients with mild or moderate cases of Covid, CNBC reported on Friday.

The drug, molnupiravir, is administered orally in the form of a pill and reportedly works by inhibiting the replication of the coronavirus inside the body. It also appears to share similar mechanisms with ivermectin when fighting COVID-19.

According to a press release from Merck, Molnupiravir “inhibits the replication of multiple RNA viruses including SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19.” Meanwhile, a scientific study published in June 2021 made a similar claim about ivermectin, saying it “inhibits and disrupts binding of the SARS-CoV-2 S protein at the ACE-2 receptors.”

Ivermectin has been a subject of controversy by many in the media, with numerous large outlets attacking the drug relentlessly, some even intentionally lying by calling the human prescribed version of the medicine “horse dewormer.” Many have also incorrectly stated that it is highly dangerous and there is no evidence of it helping treat COVID-19, with decades of proven safety among over a billion patients since the 1980s and various large-scale scientific studies observing ivermectin’s results in treating COVID-19 patients painting a very different picture.

Interestingly, many mainstream media reports put out regarding the new drug made no mention of Merck’s previous invention of the drug ivermectin, any studies regarding its usage in fighting COVID-19, or the potential conflict of interest of a pharmaceutical company developing a brand new drug that utilizes similar mechanics to one whose patent has already expired. Outlets that appeared to make no effort on touching the subject include CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, and even the US government-funded National Public Radio. Not one of those four outlets made a single mention of the word “ivermectin” in their reports on the new ‘COVID pill’ this weekend.

Merck has already sold 1.7 million treatment courses to the US government with a contingency on the company receiving either emergency authorization or full approval from the FDA.

“The news of the efficacy of this particular antiviral is obviously very good news,” White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said at a Covid briefing Friday. “The company, when they briefed us last night, had mentioned that they will be submitting their data to the FDA imminently.”

“The FDA will look at the data and in their usual, very efficient and effective way, will examine the data as quickly as they possibly can, and then it will be taken from there,” Fauci said.
