Democrat Deputy Attorney General Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

A Democrat deputy attorney general was arrested last week at his Coronado, CA home and charged with possessing child pornography in San Diego federal court.

According to the LA Times, Raymond Joseph Liddy, 53, was arrested last Tuesday and pleaded not guilty. He was released on $100,000 bond and placed on house arrest with a GPS monitor, court documents show.

Liddy is the son of G. Gordon Liddy, a disbarred lawyer, former FBI agent and co-conspirator in the Nixon administration’s burglary of the Democratic National Committee known as the Watergate scandal. He served four and a half years of an eight year commuted sentence for conspiracy, wiretapping, and burglary.

An investigation was opened into Liddy’s lewd behavior when a wireless provider sent a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in January, alerting the group that he had uploaded an image that appeared to be child pornography. Another similar tip was sent  a month later, when Liddy uploaded ten more such images.

The criminal complaint alleges that the tips were forwarded to the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children, and the FBI paid a visit to Liddy’s house. During the FBI’s visit, Liddy admitted to using the service provider that sent the tips.

“Investigators then served a search warrant on his home and found numerous photographs on a computer and thumbdrive of minors engaged in sexual conduct, the complaint states, according to the LA Times. “One image was of a nude girl blindfolded with her hands bound together, the document says.”

He claimed that he would often use the images and then delete them, and that he thought most of the images were of adults, but that some might have been children.

Liddy has been a white-collar crime prosecutor for a decade, and he graduated from Fordham University School of Law. He also has a masters degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College in Pennsylvania.

The attorney general’s office is “aware of the matter” and Liddy has been placed on administrative leave.
