Democrat Senator Joe Manchin Caves, Votes in Favor of Impeachment Against the Will of His Constituents

Manchin caved to his party bosses.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), a conservative-leaning Democrat Senator who sometimes sides with President Donald Trump, betrayed his constituents in the Mountain State and voted in favor of impeaching the president on both counts earlier today.

He released the following statement during today’s impeachment proceedings:

“The charges brought against President Trump are serious and carry grave consequences for our nation. In establishing our new republic, the Framers of the Constitution risked everything to rebel against imperial rule and instead form a democratic government of checks and balances in which no one branch would have unlimited power. The greatest fear the Framers had was foreign intervention into our fragile democracy and they warned us of the tremendous harm toxic partisanship could have on our democratic system. Sadly the partisan episode that unfolded in the United States Senate betrays the duties entrusted to this body by the Constitution.

“The evidence presented by the House Managers, including video testimony of witnesses under oath in the House of Representatives, clearly supports the charges brought against the President in the articles of impeachment.

“I have always wanted a fair trial in the Senate, and I am disappointed the President, his counsel, and a majority of my Republican colleagues decided not to support the inclusion of additional witnesses and documents during the trial, resulting in the first Senate impeachment trial of a President without witnesses. And while the President may assert executive privilege, that privilege has limits and is not absolute. Despite the false claim that a President can do no wrong, the President is not entitled to act with blatant disregard for an equal branch of government or use the superpower status of the United States to condition our support of democracy and our allies on any political favor. That is not who we are as a country.

“Voting whether or not to remove a sitting President has been a truly difficult decision, and after listening to the arguments presented by both sides, I have reached my conclusion reluctantly. For the reasons above I must vote yes on the articles of impeachment. I take no pleasure in these votes, and am saddened this is the legacy we leave our children and grandchildren. I have always wanted this President, and every President to succeed, but I deeply love our country and must do what I think is best for the nation.”

Previously, Manchin had called for President Trump to be censured while he was waffling on the impeachment vote earlier in the week. He hoped to create some political cover to mask his extreme cowardice.

“Censure would allow this body to unite across party lines and as an equal branch of government to formally denounce the President’s actions and hold him accountable,” Manchin said.

“The most dangerous, the most troubling to me, is the false claim that the President can do no wrong, that he is above the law and if it’s good for the reelection of the President that it’s good for our country. That is simply preposterous,” Manchin added.

In the end, Manchin capitulated and backstabbed his constituents by voting for President Trump at the behest of his party bosses. This Democrat will be remembered as a co-collaborator with the biggest and most unsuccessful political witch hunt in American history.

Josh Hawley Introduces Resolution Against China’s New National Security Law to Punish Hong Kong

Hawley is focusing intently on the red menace.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced a resolution on Thursday to oppose China’s new national security law meant to punish Hong Kong and quash their ongoing rebellion against the totalitarian communist state.

Hawley has long been an advocate of Hong Kong freedom protesters throughout their struggle against Chinese tyranny, which has been sidelined in large part due to the ever-so-convenient Wuhan virus outbreak. Hawley visited Hong Kong last year to talk to the people on the ground and gave a rousing floor speech highlighting their historic struggle.

He said during his speech: “I want to share something that the reverend Chu Yiu-ming said about liberty about democracy. He says it so beautifully. These are his words: “We strive for democracy because democracy strives for freedom and equality and universal love. Political freedom is more than loyalty to a state. Political freedom professes human dignity. Every single person living in a community possesses unique potentials and unique powers capable of making a unique contribution to society.”’

“That’s extraordinary and he’s exactly right, and Hongkonger’s know it, and that’s what they’re standing for, and that’s what they’re fighting for,” Hawley added. “And, Mr. President, the people of Hong Kong deserve our support, and they are depending on our support.”

China announced yesterday that they were passing a edict meant to crush dissent in Hong Kong, with no input allowed from the city itself. China has paid lip service regarding Hong Kong’s autonomy for decades, but they are now removing the facade completely.

“Beijing has opted for the most risky route,” said Ho-Fung Hung, who works as a professor of international relations for Johns Hopkins University. “It will show the world that ‘one country, two systems’ is, if not already over, almost over.”

“It will be very difficult for anyone, especially the United States, to say Hong Kong is still autonomous and viable,” Hung added.

China is denying that they are taking control over Hong Kong and putting out communist propaganda that their Draconian power-grab will actually improve relations.

“We will ensure the long-term stability of ‘one country, two systems,’ ” said Wang Yang, leader of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, which convenes every year to advise the Chinese government.

“We will continue to support the improvement of the implementation of the systems and mechanisms of the constitution and Basic Law,” he added.

It is unlikely that anyone is willing to believe the Chinese lip service at this point. Hawley is also calling on the globalist United Nations to pass a resolution condemning China’s behavior as well.
