Democratic Governors Vow To Defend Abortion Amid SCOTUS Draft Leak
Democratic governors have vowed to defend abortion after the leaked initial draft majority SCOTUS opinion showed the Court voting to strike down Roe V. Wade.
The Democrats responded in “horror” to the bombshell report from Politico, calling the decision an “attack on women across the country.”
Gov. Gavin Newsom, for one, called the draft an “appalling attack on the rights of women.” Claiming it “does not value the rights of women.”
Now, the California Governor is “proposing an amendment to enshrine the right to choose in the California constitution.”
Further stating that “Women will remain protected [in California].”
NEW: We are proposing an amendment to enshrine the right to choose in the California constitution.
We can’t trust SCOTUS to protect the right to abortion, so we’ll do it ourselves.

It’s worth noting that abortion has been a pinnacle component of California’s plans for the future. One that possesses seemingly zero boundaries when it comes to when an abortion can be legally performed in the state. As recent reports indicate the state is looking towards up to 28 days AFTER birth.
Gov. Kathy Hochul uttered similar outrage in a statement on Monday saying, “I am horrified by the apparent draft Supreme Court opinion leaked this evening that would overturn the right to abortion guaranteed by Roe v. Wade.”
“For the sake of women across the country, this should not be the Supreme Court’s final opinion when it comes to abortion rights,” she continued.
Hochul too has been a major advocate for abortion rights over her career. Just last year, she supported a bill that would have allowed non-doctors to perform abortions.
Another outspoken Governor is Phil Murphy of New Jersey, who described Monday as a “truly dark day in America.”
A truly dark day in America with the news reports that the Supreme Court has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.
This year, I signed the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act – codifying a woman's right to choose into state law. New Jersey will not go backwards on reproductive rights.

He later went on to say that he stands with “women, men and families across the country who are rightfully outraged at this latest unlawful attempt by Justice Kavanaugh and his allies on the court to gut Roe v. Wade.”
Murphy then vowed to fight back against the expected SCOTUS ruling.
It’s been less than 24 hours since this breaking story, and the nation is already seeing widespread outrage against the draft.
Protests began in Washington D.C. only a couple of hours after the news broke. And angered politicians quickly took to Twitter to express their opposition towards the decision.
Bernie Sanders even suggested ending the fillibuster in his remarks.
Congress must pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade as the law of the land in this country NOW. And if there aren’t 60 votes in the Senate to do it, and there are not, we must end the filibuster to pass it with 50 votes.

Conservatives on the other hand have begun giving former President Donald Trump credit for the Court opinion if it eventually holds true.
Daily Wire speaker Michael Knowles said, “If the opinion is real, Donald Trump has secured his place as one of the greatest and most consequential presidents in American history.”
Rest assured, the abortion debate is far from over and will likely continue to be one of the most divisive political issues in this country. Especially ahead of midterms.
The public is already enraged at the news that Roe v. Wade may soon be overturned, but what’s even more worrisome is that Democratic politicians are taking action against it.
Perhaps that was the point of the leak all along.
