Dems Play Damage Control After Mad Maxine Calls for Harassment of Trump Officials

After several officials in President Donald J. Trump’s administration were harassed in public over the past week, Democrat lawmakers are calling for restraint after Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) encouraged more of the same behavior.

“In the crucial months ahead, we must strive to make America beautiful again,” wrote Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Twitter. “Trump’s daily lack of civility has provoked responses that are predictable but unacceptable. As we go forward, we must conduct elections in a way that achieves unity from sea to shining sea.”

The condemnation comes after Waters’ inflammatory MSNBC interview Sunday.

“And I want to tell you,” she said in the interview, “for these members of his Cabinet who remain and try to defend him, they’re not going to be able to go to a restaurant, to be able to stop at a gas station, to be able to shop at a department store. The people are going to turn on them, they’re going to protest, they’re going to absolutely harass them until they tell the president: ‘No, I can’t hang with you.’ ”

On Saturday, Waters has echoed a similar tune during a rally.

“The American people have put up with this president long enough. What more do we need to see? What more lies do we need to hear?” she yelled. “If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them!”

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielson was chased out of a Mexican restaurant last week, as was senior Trump advisor Stephen Miller. Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was refused service at a Lexington, VA restaurant Saturday.
