Dianne Feinstein Unveils More Gun Control Legislation

Feinstein 2019 Gun Control Legislation

California Senator Dianne Feinstein already unveiled more legislation which critics say chips away at the Second Amendment.

Feinstein released a press release detailing her newest gun control legislation, which is aimed at stopping the production of what she terms “military style assault weapons”, strengthening the restrictions on bump stocks and other types of stock may be used on a rifle, and includes provisions regarding “assault pistols.”

The bill would ban the production of “205 military-style assault weapons by name”, and require existing guns to be kept in “a secure gun storage or safety device like a trigger lock.”

Additionally, the bill would ban bump stocks at a congressional level, as the existing ban happened in the judiciary branch and is being challenged legally through the courts. Feinstein noted this in December of 2018, foreshadowing this legislative action.

The bill would also ban magazines able to hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, place restrictions on the stocks that can be used with “assault pistols”, suggesting with the correct stock an “assault pistol” may be transformed into an “assault rifle.”

Feinstein’s press release offers no insight as to which 205 weapons may be classified as “military style assault weapons” versus the “more than 2,200 guns” exempted for use in “hunting, household defense or recreational purposes.”

Feinstein and her coalition of Democrat senators named the Parkland, Las Vegas, and Sutherland shootings as the driving cause necessitating the legislation, attributing them all to 2018. In reality, both the tragedy in Las Vegas, Nevada and Sutherland, Texas happened in 2017.

The veteran senator rocked national headlines last year, when it was revealed Feinstein employed a Chinese spy on her staff for 20 years, including while she headed the Senate Intelligence Committee. Feinstein maintained that the spy had no access to sensitive information, and downplayed the revelation.
