Donald Trump Pleads Not Guilty to Election Charges

On August 4, 2023, former President Donald Trump declared that it a “very sad day for America” after pleading not guilty to conspiring to overturn the 2020 presidential election. He proclaimed that the criminal charges would guarantee his re-election in 2024.

This hearing took place in Washington in a federal court close to the United States Capitol. The US Capitol was the site of the January 6 protesters where Trump supporters initially protested the results of the 2020 presidential election.

According to The Times, Trump arrived at the court roughly 45 minutes prior to the hearing of his case. Moxila Upadhyaya presided over the arraignment. The arraignment lasted roughly 30 minutes.

At 4:15 PM local time, Upadhyaya made her way into the courtroom. The clerk announced the case as: “This is criminal case 23-257, the United States of America vs Donald J Trump. This matter is set for summons, arraignment and initial appearance.”

Shortly after, Trump pleaded not guilty to all four charges in the case at hand. Trump is facing charges for conspiracy to defraud the US, conspiracy to impede an official proceeding; obstruction; and conspiracy against voting rights and having an individual’s vote counted. Trump was alleged to have lied repeatedly about mass voter fraud and pushing elected officials to change the results of the 2020 presidential elections to keep him in office.

The judge announced that the most serious charges could have Trump spend 20 years in prison. The next hearing is slated for August 28.

In the lead up to the hearing, Trump went on Truth Social to attack President Joe Biden and his Justice Department. The former added that the latest round of criminal allegations he’s facing would improve his change of being re-elected as president in 2024.

“Biden and his family steal Millions and Millions of Dollars, including BRIBES from foreign countries, and I’m headed to D.C. to be ARRESTED for protesting a CROOKED ELECTION,” he said in post he made on Truth Social. In a separate post, he declared: “I NEED ONE MORE INDICTMENT TO ENSURE MY ELECTION!”

The charges with respect to the 2020 election constitute the third criminal case put forward against the former president this year.

In June, Trump pleaded not guilty to stashing hundreds of boxes of classified documents at his Florida home in Mar-a-Lago. Back in March, state charges were filed against him in New York for hush money payments made to porno star Stormy Daniels. An additional indictment is expected to drop soon in  Fulton county in Georgia.

The DC regime and its lackey at all levels of government aren’t playing around. They truly want to destroy Trump and prevent a repeat of the 2016 election. Hopefully, Trump can brave these legal ordeals. If not,  and he winds up in prison, America has truly reached Banana Republic status.
