Donald Trump Will Reportedly Claim He’s the “Presumptive 2024 Nominee” in CPAC Speech

Donald Trump’s speech at CPAC—scheduled for Sunday, February 28—will communicate that he’s still the leader of the Republican Party as well as their “presumptive 2024 nominee” for president.
Axios first broke the news early Monday morning, citing “top Trump allies.”
“A longtime adviser called Trump’s speech a ‘show of force,’ and said the message will be: ‘I may not have Twitter or the Oval Office, but I’m still in charge.’ Payback is his chief obsession,” according to the report.
Some of his advisers told Axios that Trump has a stronger and wider influence within the GOP now more than ever before. Senior adviser Jason Miller said that “Trump effectively is the Republican Party. The only chasm is between Beltway insiders and grassroots Republicans around the country. When you attack President Trump, you’re attacking the Republican grassroots.”
Although Trump may declare himself the “presumptive nominee,” that does not necessarily mean he’s throwing his hat in the presidential ring again. Axios says that “many Trump confidants think he’ll pretend to run but ultimately pass.”
“He knows the possibility—or threat—gives him leverage and attention,” they added.
On Saturday Big League Politics covered a Politico report that said Trump has been preparing to vet candidates looking to primary Republican governors and members of Congress who have disavowed or clashed with him over the past couple months. Formal meetings are said to begin at Mar-a-Lago sometime in March.
