EXTREMISTS: Democrats Nominate Socialist In NYC, Taking Down Incumbent
Democrats in New York City nominated a socialist for the state’s 14th district seat. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ran on a socialist platform with the backing of the New York City Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, who celebrated her win by proclaiming “socialism will win.”
Congrats on the win, @Ocasio2018. The number of votes cast tonight—in what has been the lowest turnout district in the country under Rep. Crowley—proves that working class people are hungry for a voice in politics. pic.twitter.com/iw9CG1T9pt

Her campaign was based around Bernie Sanders-style messaging of free healthcare, free education, and a jobs guarantee. She also touts her pledge to enact gun control, abolish ICE, and made housing a human rights (somehow).
She will replace 10-term Congressman Joseph Crowley, who was highly anti-Trump, but stuck with standard Democrat talking points. Despite Ocasio-Cortez being a radical socialist, President Donald Trump couldn’t help rubbing it in that Crowley lost.

At 28-years old, Ocasio-Cortez will be one of the youngest people elected to Congress in history. Her win is good for the far-left wing of the Democrat party, and a major loss for the more moderate wing.
