Failed Congressman Scott Taylor’s Staffer Indicted for Election Fraud

A staffer for a failed anti-Trump former congressman from Virginia has been indicted for election fraud, according to Monday reports.

“Special prosecutor Donald Caldwell announced the indictment in a statement Monday,” said WAVY. “He did not identify the staffer who worked on Scott Taylor’s campaign in Virginia’s coastal 2nd Congressional District, but Virginia Beach Court records identify the staffer is Lauren Creekmore.”

The incumbent Republican congressman lost his reelection bid last summer, during which there was a great deal of controversy.

His campaign allegedly forged signatures so a third candidate would appear on the ballot, thus splitting the vote. The candidate was eventually removed from the ballot in what was described as “out-and-out” fraud.

“Whatever their motivation for that decision was, the bottom line is that circulating petitions in accordance with the law on behalf of a third party is not a crime,” Caldwell reportedly said. “However, at some point between June 1, 2018, and June 12, 2018, it is clear that individuals decided to engage in activity that was a violation of Virginia law.”

Taylor said in a statement Monday:

The special prosecutor’s release today makes it concretely clear, as I have maintained all along, I knew nothing about any illegal actions that transpired. Further it is entirely appropriate to hold those accountable for their actions in this matter.

It was also a breach of public trust to see the Democrats falsely state I was under investigation, when they knew this was never the case, and direct the creation of ads containing numerous demonstrably false statements. Today serves as a complete repudiation of the smears and lies leveled against me in the campaign last year. I was not ever aware of any wrongdoing by my campaign until the allegations came to light. Today’s release by the special prosecutor is complete vindication in that regard.

Given the positive polling before the petition issue came to light and the close loss we suffered on Election Day, it is clear the the millions spent by the dishonest Democrats impacted the outcome of the race.

Since I was 18, I have been called to service. That call has not subsided in me and I intend to stay engaged. I have lived up to the standards of integrity and character instilled in me by mother, mentor, and the military throughout my time in public office. The update provided on the investigation today confirms that.

Taylor, a Paul Ryan ally, has a questionable record. He was accused of threatening to blow up a Numbers USA office in late 2017. Numbers USA is an anti-amnesty group.
