FLASHBACK: Watch Mike Lee Call For Trump To Drop Out in October 2016

A Senator from Utah who has been touted as a conservative leader and a name that has been floated for a soon-to-be vacated Supreme Court seat has a long history of trying to thwart President Donald J. Trump.

“Mr. Trump, I respectfully ask you, with all due respect, to step aside,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) said in a video in October 2016. “Step down. Allow someone else to carry the banner of these [conservative] principles.”

Lee fancies himself a “true conservative” who has only warmed up to President Trump after an undeniably conservative first 18 months in office.

“Allow someone else to carry the banner of these principles that have made our country great,” he said. “The principles that will stand as a beacon of hope to the American family, rather than weighing down the American people, rather than weighing down the very principles that will help us in win in November.”

Had Trump stepped down in October of 2016, of course, the election would have been a bloodbath, and Lee’s precious “conservative” principles would have been permanently finished. The video is absolutely cringeworthy.

Not to mention, Lee does not have the most conservative record of late. The Senator sponsored a bill earlier this year that would have codified gay marriage into law for the first time in U.S. history.

Big League Politics reported:

“A Republican Senator who introduced a bill to protect the rights of religious people to express disapproval of gay marriage without fear of government reprisal has backed down.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) has added an amendment to the First Amendment Defense Act to protect gay marriage from discrimination. The bill currently sits at the Senate Judiciary Committee.

‘Liberty Counsel supported this bill with the original language,’ said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. ‘Now that he has insisted that the language be changed, we will not only withdraw our support but we will actively oppose the bill.’

BLP Passage Ends.

The last thing President Trump needs is a Judas on the Supreme Court, especially when there are so many well-qualified candidates that will actually uphold conservative principles.
