Florida House Passes Bill To Ban Sanctuary Cities

The Florida House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday to outlaw sanctuary cities that harbor criminal illegal aliens.

Led by Republicans, the bill would require “local law enforcement agencies to cooperate with federal immigration authorities and banning so-called ‘sanctuary city’ policies that shield immigrants who are arrested,” said NBC.

“The GOP-led House voted 69-47 along party lines Wednesday for the measure, sending it over to the Senate where a similar bill is pending,” according to the report.

The Florida Senate is stacked with Republicans, who outnumber Democrats 23-17. Should the bill pass the Senate, it will likely be signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is known for his tough stance on border security.

“I’m asking the Legislature to send me a bill during this legislative session to address sanctuary cities and counties in Florida. I’m also calling on more local law enforcement to work with the federal government to ensure our immigration laws are enforced and justice is upheld,” he said in February.

The American Civil Liberties Union has reportedly warned “immigrants” against traveling to Florida, and “triggered protests around the state.”

Legal immigrants, of course, would have nothing to worry about under the new bill. Those breaking America’s laws by living here illegally could be punished if Florida’s cities are, indeed, forced to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
