Fox Business Cans Beloved Host Lou Dobbs in Slight to America First Movement
Lou Dobbs Tonight has been reportedly cancelled by Fox Business as of Friday, with Lou Dobbs never expected to appear on a Fox channel again.
Trump supporters who watch Fox News and Fox Business have pointed to Dobbs as a favorite within Fox, as one of the few hosts at the network willing to openly support Donald Trump. Dobbs was also one of the only prominent figures in conservative media who would criticize immigration, globalism, free trade, and billionaires, depriving the network of a populist voice at a moment when establishment neocons are moving to reestablish dominance of the conservative movement.
Dobbs’ career in news goes back decades, with the host starting as an on-air personality on CNN long before the channel became affiliated with left-wing politics. Dobbs moved to Fox in 2010.
Dobbs hosted the most highly-rated program at Fox Business, raising questions as to why Fox has decided to sever its relationship with Dobbs. Dobbs will remain under contract at Fox, but mainstream media reports have indicated that Dobbs has been designated a persona non grata within the organization.
Dobbs’ departure from Fox leaves Tucker Carlson as the only primetime host within the Fox family affiliated with the America First movement. It’s possible the broadly viewed host will continue his broadcast career at a network such as OANN and Newsmax.
UPDATE:
President Donald Trump has issued a statement in the wake of Dobbs’ firing from Fox Business:
“Lou Dobbs is and was great. Nobody loves America more than Lou. He had a large and loyal following that will be watching closely for his next move, and that following includes me.”
