Georgia Republicans Are Looking to Pass Legislation to Award Illegal Aliens With In-State Tuition
Several Republican state representatives in Georgia are working alongside two Democrats to pass a bill that would grant in-state college tuition to illegal aliens enrolled in the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Georgia State Representatives Kasey Carpenter, Dale Washburn, Bill Werkheiser and Penny Houston — all Republicans — are pushing HB 131 to grant 15,000 illegal aliens enrolled in DACA in-state college and university tuition rates.
Democrat State Representative Long Tran and Pedro Marin are also sponsoring the bill.
“It’s a no-brainer,” Carpenter said to Axios about the legislation. Carpenter attempted to pass the same bill in 2022 but the attempt ended up dying because there were not enough Republicans to cross over and support the legislation.
As John Binder of Breitbart News noted, over the last few years, several Republican states have passed legislation to grant in-state tuition to illegal aliens.
Red states such as Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah already have measures that allow illegal aliens to exploit in-state tuition.
Currently, there are roughly 750,000 illegal aliens and their children born in the US reside in the state of Georgia. By passing this kind of law, Georgia policymakers will create an additional magnet that will attract more illegal aliens to the state.
This is just another sign demonstrating that Republicans can’t be fully trusted on immigration issues. Many are still beholden to the cheap labor, Chamber of Commerce lobby. For states like Georgia to remain hospitable for its citizens and politically competitive for Republicans, illegal and legal immigration must be clamped down on.
No questions asked.
