“GOP – the ‘Death of Democracy'”

Rachel Maddow’s new book, Blowout, examines how the Russian economy’s reliance onĀ  oil and natural gas contributed to Vladimir Putin’s decision to interfere in the 2016 U.S. election.

GOP – the ‘Death of Democracy’ according to Democrats claim-If you have tuned into MSNBC, ABC, CBS, or any democratic politician lately, then you have probably heard these new liberal talking points uttered at some point or another; The GOP will lead to the “death of our democracy.”

With every media pundit saying the same phrases over and over, its clear that this messaging is an organized attempt to fear-monger democrat and swing voters prior to the upcoming midterm elections.

Democrats are often given air time to blame Republicans for their laws, policies, and ideas. Often threatening that their influence would lead to the “end” or “death of our democracy.” The following are some examples.

Yesterday, the former executive director of the Lincoln Project Fred WellmanĀ tweeted,Ā “Norms and traditions are going to end our democracy.”

Later that day, Jennifer Rubin published a column in The Washington Post warning that COVID-19 could be “hastening” the demise of our nation’s democracy.

On Sunday, Rolling Stone published a critical piece on Sen. Joe Manchin titled, “How Joe Manchin Knifed the Democrats ā€“ and Bailed on Saving Democracy.”

During a live panel for MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Donny Deutsch, a guest of the show, claimed “democracy is over”Ā if Democrats cannot understand what wins elections.

“If we donā€™t get this right this time itā€™s over. You put McCarthy back in, you put Trump back in our democracy is over. Iā€™m not overstating it. Thatā€™s where weā€™re at. And the Democrats have to understand what wins elections and what loses elections,” Deutsch said.

There are countless examples of these talking points being aired on national television delivered with same threat of Republican victories in the midterms leading to an “end to our democracy.”

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Nicolle Wallace, Joy Reid and Michigan AG Dana Nessel have all been on record making similar claims. Of course, Hillary Clinton has too.

“I think that could be the end of our democracy. Not to be too pointed about it, but I want people to understand that this is a make-or-break point. If he were, or someone of his ilk were once again to be elected president, and if especially he had a Congress that would do his bidding, you will not recognize our country,” Clinton said.

It’s unclear at the moment whether these talking points are having an impact on the American voter. As of right now, people appear to be more concerned with inflation and the Russia-Ukraine war than threats of a Republican red wave in the upcoming election.

Joe Biden has proven to be extremely unpopular amongst voters. Kamala too. So it’s likely Democrats are using this “death of democracy” rhetoric as an endgame effort to bring people back to the polls come November.

Democrats have made it clear; they want the American public to view the GOP as an existential threat to our nation and will continue to say so until Election Day.
