Gov. Ron DeSantis Assists Leftists Destroying History, Targets Confederate Statue for Removal

Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, once considered a favorite of conservatives and Trump supporters, is now doing the Left’s bidding for them, and targeting a Confederate statue for removal in a gratuitous display of political correctness.
DeSantis is calling to remove the likeness of Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith that represents the state of Florida in the U.S. Capitol at the National Statuary Hall. He wants it to be replaced with civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune, in a clear capitulation to the Maoist Left.
“Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune was an influential educator, leader and civil rights activist who became one of Florida’s and our nation’s most influential leaders,” DeSantis said in a press release.
“Dr. McLeod Bethune’s statue will represent the best of who we are as Floridians to visitors from around the world in our nation’s capitol. Her legacy endures and will continue to inspire future generations,” he added.
Democrats exploited tragedies such as the massacre of nine people at a predominantly African-American church in South Carolina in 2015, and the disastrous white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA during 2017 to accelerate their cultural genocide. DeSantis is giving into their demands.
H. K. Edgerton, an African-American member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, testified before a Florida Senate Appropriations Committee meeting against the removal of Smith’s statue in 2017.
“He was the model Floridian – there is no one better to represent Florida than him…teacher, soldier, concerned about his Black brothers and sisters…environmentalist. He had the whole package….unfortunately, because he had white skin, some people say he has got to go,” Edgerton said.
“No one disputes Ms. Bethune is a fine American, but it will only create more division between the races if the Florida Legislature makes this move – it will make national headlines that the Florida Legislature is dishonoring one of the finest Floridians ever and siding with Black Lives Matter,” Edgerton concluded.
The Left, emboldened by the surrender of weak-willed Republican politicians like DeSantis, is already moving on to their next target in their ongoing cultural genocide: the Founding Fathers.
George Washington’s own Virginia church announced they would take down his memorial in 2017, a mural of George Washington will soon be repainted at a San Francisco High School, and Thomas Jefferson’s birthday will no longer be honored in his own hometown.
These overreaches from the Left are made possible because of Republican leaders like DeSantis who are too weak-willed to draw a line in the sand regarding statues and monuments honoring Confederate ancestors.
