Government Mandated Lockdowns & Curfews Sweep Nation Attempting to Quell Wuhan Virus
State and government officials across the nation are engaging in attempts of slowing down the spread of the Chinese Virus know as COVID-19 by employing mandatory and voluntary curfews.
On Monday the governors of Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York announced that non-essential businesses such as bars, casinos, gyms, movie theaters, and performance art centers must closed by 8:00 PM. The announcement allows for restaurants to offer take-out and delivery, while supermarkets and gas stations will be able to stay open past the curfew.
New Jersey is taking precautions one step further by prohibiting travel from 8 p.m. ET to 5 a.m. ET, with the exception of essential travel.
Pennsylvania is shutting down all nonessential businesses across the state for two weeks and requesting residents to stay indoors.
Governor Gavin Newsom of California has requested that all residents sixty five years and older to stay indoors and self-isolate. The request extended to anyone with chronic health conditions. The governor also requested that bars, nightclubs, wineries, and pubs should close and that all restaurants should run at half capacity.
San Francisco and surrounding counties totaling over six and half million people will prohibit anyone from leaving their homes “except for essential needs” beginning at midnight Monday.
Cities in New England such as Bangor and Portland, Maine have declared city wide emergencies which will enact a curfew of 8 PM on all bars, restaurants, and gathering places as well as close down such places as City Hall, although city staff will keep working and will be able to assist residents via email and phone.
