Governor Greg Abbott Defends Border Policies in Light of Increased Criticism

On July 28, 2023, Texas Governor Greg Abbott argued that it is the immigration policies of President Joe Biden’s regime that are endangering migrants attempting to cross the Rio Grande.
This statement came following Texas officials being accused of allegedly pushing pregnant women and children into the Rio Grande.
Weeks after Texas officials were accused of pushing pregnant women and children into the Rio Grande,
Abbott asserted that Biden’s policies have incentivized illegal border crossings, which is putting migrants in perilous situations. In response to this, Abbott announced that the Texas state government has installed razor wire and buoys to prevent people from even attempting to cross the river, thereby preventing injuries.
“It has been inhumane what Joe Biden has done,” Abbott declared at an event on the night of July 28 in Georgetown.
The governor claimed that his policy actions have reduced the potential for drowning incidents.
“This deterrent may very well, will likely, not only secure our border but save lives that would have been lost,” he stated.
Abbott’s remarks come several days after Vice President Kamala Harris gave a speech in Chicago to criticize Abbott’s border security measures as “inhumane, outrageous and un-American.”
Harris took advantage of a report from Hearst Newspapers in which a Texas Department of Public Safety officer issued a complaint to a superior about border policies and migrants getting injured. The trooper detailed discovering a pregnant woman who got caught in the razor wire who was having a miscarriage, in addition to a 4-year-old girl who passed out as a result of heat exhaustion after she tried to pass through the wire and was repelled by Texas National Guard units.
The Department of Justice recently filed a lawsuit against Abbott for erecting a 1,000-foot wall of buoys in the Rio Grande without receiving permission from the US Army Corps of Engineers.
“This floating barrier poses a risk to navigation, as well as public safety, in the Rio Grande River, and it presents humanitarian concerns,” Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta declared in a statement where the lawsuit was rolled out.
Abbott called out the lawsuit on July 28 at the Texas Republican County Chairmen’s Association meeting in Georgetown.
“When you look at all we’ve done, you would think Joe Biden would have sent me a thank you card,” Abbott joked in his speech. “But no, Joe Biden didn’t send me a thank you note. He gave me a lawsuit.”
Abbott received a strong round of applause when he promised to take all the measures within his power to secure the Texas border.
At this point in the game, it’s up to red border states like Texas to start taking immigration enforcement into their own hands as the federal government has proven to be thoroughly incompetent on this matter.
Right-wing activists must continue putting pressure on the government of Greg Abbott to ensure that Texas continues taking immigration enforcement into its own hands.
The fate of the Historic American Nation depends on bold political action.
