Ilhan Omar Laments ‘Ignorance’ in ‘Many Parts of This Country’
A Democrat Congresswoman from Minnesota joined The Nation’s “Next Left” podcast to denounce “ignorance” in America, which she described as “pervasive.”
“And ignorance really is pervasive in many parts of this country. And as someone who was raised by educators, I really like to inform people about things that they might be ignorant to, willingly or unwillingly,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) told John Nichols.
The topic of discussion was America’s refugee resettlement program. Omar was justifying state contracts that help resettle refugees, the nature of which she claimed Republicans were deliberately misrepresenting. Republicans, she said, “are really good at misinformation and sort of really reorganizing facts to sort of paint a picture that really eventually is not rooted in facts.”
“And so it is not that they might not be knowledgeable about this, but they use it as a tool to stir up hate and division,” she continued.
Omar herself is a refugee from Somalia, a country which has been engulfed in civil war since the 1980’s. Tucker Carlson recently claimed that Omar’s resettlement in America as a failure of the American immigration system.
Big League Politics reported:
Fox News host Tucker Carlson blasted a Somali-born congresswoman from Minnesota Friday night, telling his audience that she represents the failure of the American immigration system.
“Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, herself a symbol of America’s failed immigration system – if there ever was one – someone who hates this country, coming here at public expense, spent yesterday demanding the abolition of ICE, the decriminalization of illegal immigration itself, and and end to all deportation programs,” Carlson said.
“She demands open borders,” he continued. “The unlimited arrival of anyone who wants to come to America, whether they have anything to contribute or not – any by the way, you get to pay for it. And if you don’t want to, you’re a bigot.”
Carlson moved on to make the point that open borders is not about human rights, or any other leftist pretext, but rather money and power, and that corporate oligarchs do not want to stop the flow of cheap labor into the United States.
