In Chicago, Police Made Over 1,000 Arrests of Venezuelan Migrants in 2024

The Chicago Police Department has carried out over 1,000 arrests of Venezuelan migrants in the first three months of 2024, per crime data that the Chicago Tribune published.

The Tribune only reviewed crime data from Chicago’s Venezuelan population, with 40,000 having arrived in the Windy City since August 2022. The Chicago Police Department does not keep tabs on the arrests of migrants, but it does track the country of origin for individuals arrested. That said, the data in question is not recorded in roughly 14% of cases.

Of cases with data recorded, CPD made over 1,000 arrests of Venezuelan migrants from January up until March of 2024.

John Binder of Breitbart News put some perspective to the proportion of criminality coming from Venezuelan migrants:

Put another way, while newly arrived Venezuelan migrants make up just 1.5 percent of Chicago’s 2.6 million residents, they have accounted for 11.11 percent of all arrests in the first three months of 2024, when officers recorded the arrestees’ country of origin.”

Generally speaking, in the 19 months since migrants started flooding Chicago, 21 Venezuelan migrants were arrested for violent felonies.

In 2023, Chicago Police Department data highlighted that arrests of Venezuelan nationals had grown by over 11,000% since 2021.

In 2021, for perspective, CPE arrested just 6 Venezuelan migrants. By the end of November 2023, close to 700 Venezuelans had been arrested.

Venezuelan migrants are just one of the dysfunctional migrant groups that are entering the country by the thousands. Such groups will only continue to proliferate and sully the country if the border is not fully secured and the country does not make a concerted effort to lock down all points of entry into the US.
