INCOMPETENCE? State Department Penetrated in “Serious” Cyber Attack

State Department officials have learned that the department was the victim of a “serious” cyber attack weeks ago, potentially jeopardizing classified information and American military secrets.

Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich reported that the State Department became aware of the breach on Saturday, which reportedly occurred several weeks ago.

Western governments have blamed groups affiliated with Iran and China for cyber attacks on corporations previously. The hack reportedly hasn’t effected State Department efforts to transport Afghan migrants to the United States.

The State Department is thus far unwilling to blame any specific actors for the hack, presumably waiting to report details to the incident to Congress to comply with a federal rule requiring “major” cyberattacks to be reported within seven days.

The attack is the latest in a series of cyberattacks targeting federal American governmental institutions. Despite frequent insistence from liberal bureaucrats that the Russian Federation is exclusively responsible for the hacking, there’s little evidence to suggest Putin’s government would conduct an operation that would surely be met with retaliation from American government counterparts.
