It’s Campaign Season, So Cory Booker Has a New Girlfriend

Monday PageSix confirmed that Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), a likely 2020 candidate for president, as a new girlfriend.

“Presumptive presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker and ‘Rent’ star Rosario Dawson have been dating at least since December, we’re told,” the magazine said.

Apparently, the two have been spotted at a movie and a Broadway show together. Dawson was the star of the 2005 film “Rent.”

This is not the first time Booker, whose sexuality has been questioned throughout his career, has conveniently found himself in a relationship during campaign season. Also reported by Page Six in 2013, Booker began dating Bianca Levin, a partner at Gang Tyre Ramer & Brown talent firm in Los Angeles with many huge-name Hollywood clients.

The pair began dating in June of that year, and met at a Booker fundraiser.

Booker has already faced scrutiny about being an unmarried presidential candidate.

“America is accustomed to not just a chief executive who leads the government, but a First Family that rounds out the ceremonial and symbolic aspects of the job,” Philly Inquirer said in Booker profile in December. “Spouses and their children can become national figures in their own rights, and often soften a candidate’s image.”

The standard of the “American family” has long be set. The last bachelor elected to the highest office in the land was Grover Cleveland in 1886. Cleveland married shortly thereafter, during his first term. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), also single, faced questions similar to those facing Booker when he ran for president in 2016.

Booker’s mother has filled the traditional female figure role during past campaigns, including his campaign for mayor of Newark.

Booker is expected to announce a decision on a presidential run in January.
