Joe Biden Calls for Additional Gun Control After Shooting Murder at University of North Carolina

On August 28, 2023, a gunman killed a faculty adviser at University of North Carolina (UNC).
In response to this killing, President Joe Biden promised to push for further civilian disarmament measures. He also urged Congress to take action.
Biden posted the following:
This was the front page of UNC-Chapel Hill’s Daily Tar Heel.
No student, no parent, and no American should have to send texts like these to their loved ones as they hide from a shooter.
I’ll continue to do all I can to reduce gun violence and call on Congress to do the same.

This shooting took place in a gun-free zone. Students who have concealed carry permits are allowed to have firearms in their cars in a parking lot. However, those firearms must be locked inside id containers.
However, guns are completely banned on the UNC campus and inside educational property. The buildings at UNC Chapel Hill are gun-free zones owing school policy.
The policy stated:
It is a felony, punishable by fine and/or imprisonment, to possess or carry, openly or concealed, any gun, rifle, pistol, or other firearm of any kind, or any dynamite cartridge, bomb, grenade, mine, or powerful explosive on any University campus, in any University-owned or operated facility, or at a curricular or extracurricular activity sponsored by the University. Such conduct also may constitute a violation of the Honor Code.
The only exception to this policy is that individuals with concealed carry permits “may have a handgun in a closed compartment or container within the person’s locked vehicle or in a locked container securely affixed to the person’s vehicle.” However, those handguns are not allowed to be transported into university buildings or carried on campus for the purpose of self-defense.
Despite this gun prohibition being on the books, the shooting suspect was still able to carry a firearm into a lab and gun down the faculty adviser
According to pro-gun researcher John Lott, 94% of mass shootings since 1950, have occurred in gun-free zones.
Truth be told, gun-free zones are safe spaces for criminals who want to rack up massive kill counts. If policymakers are actually serious about promoting security on campuses, they would strive to abolish gun-free zones.
