Josh Hawley Sends Letter to NCAA President to Clarify Transgender Athlete Policy

On October 18, 2023, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley sent a letter to NCAA President and former Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker demanding to know what the specific NCAA policy is with respect to the locker room usage of transgender athletes.
“As of today—October 18, 2023—what exactly is the NCAA’s policy on transgender athletes’ access to locker rooms? Please provide a comprehensive explanation,” the letter stated. Hawley’s letter also went on to ask if female athletes will receive an apology from the NCAA for being compelled to share locker rooms with male athletes.
“Will the NCAA provide an apology to female student athletes who were required to share locker rooms and other intimate spaces with biological men?,” Hawley wrote in his letter.
The letter comes on the heels of a recent Senate Judiciary Committee hearing where Hawley grilled Baker about the NCAA’s policy of forcing female athletes to share locker rooms with males was still in effect. In this instance, he referenced conservative personality and former All-American swimmer Riley Gaines.
“When I asked you whether the forced inclusion of biological men in women’s locker rooms remains NCAA policy, you equivocated,” the Missouri Senator wrote. “You testified that you ‘[didn’t] believe that policy would be the policy that we would use today.’ But you declined to state what the NCAA’s policy actually is.”
Hawley’s letter goes on to criticize the NCAA for exploiting student athletes for financial gain while simultaneously ignoring their needs, concerns, and safety.
On top of asking Baker about the NCAA’s locker room policy, Hawley’s letter demanded to know if locker rooms were ever made unisex, officially or unofficially.
“Has the NCAA or any of its designees or officials ever promulgated a policy, whether through official or unofficial channels, of making locker rooms unisex?,” it stated.
Hawley posted on X/Twitter to sound off on the matter.
“It’s pathetic that it takes being put under oath for NCAA officials to admit forcing female athletes to have men in their locker rooms – and then change in front of them – was wrong,” he stated on October 18.
Universities have become hotbeds of degeneracy and their toxic culture has seeped into every facet of people’s lives.
Athletics has not been exempt from this toxic trend. Hopefully, elected officials start clamping down on the NCAA and hold it accountable for becoming a vehicle for cultural leftism. We simply can’t allow the Left to continue gaining space in cultural venues and destroying our freedoms.
