Judge Roy Moore Announces Alabama Senate Bid

Former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court Roy S. Moore announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate in 2020 Thursday afternoon.

Moore bashed the National Republican Senate Committee for publicly opposing him before he even announced his candidacy, and rhetorically asked why the entire Republican establishment in Washington, D.C. was fighting against him. He implied that Republicans in Washington oppose him because he is a staunch conservative who will fight the establishment.

Moore’s 2017 bid for U.S. Senate against Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) was derailed by still-unproven allegations of sexual misconduct. Moore has sued his accuser, resulting in a legal battle that has been dragged out by the defense, in hopes of marring Moore’s 2020 candidacy. Moore’s campaign was also sabotaged by an operation now known as “Project Birmingham,” during which a technology firm called New Knowledge planted “Russian bots” to follow Moore’s official Twitter account before its founder publicly accused Moore of being a Russian stooge.

Moore also bashed news outlets like The Washington Post who ran with the allegations of misconduct.
