President Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner, are planning to meet with rapper Kanye West on Thursday at the White House, according to The New York Times. A representative for Kanye confirmed the meeting. West will first be meeting with Kushner, and later have lunch with President Trump.
One person briefed on the meeting said that West wants to discuss the availability of job opportunities for former convicts, as well as to discuss how to increase the number of manufacturing jobs, particularly in the Chicago area, where West grew up and recently said he planned to return to, according to sources who spoke with the Times.
President Trump and Kushner recently met with Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, about sentencing overhauls. She had urged President Trump to commute the life sentence of Alice Johnson, an African-American woman who was serving time for a drug-related case.
West met with President Trump during Trump’s transition, before he was sworn into office, and they appear to have a mutual admiration for one another.
West spoke of their shared “dragon energy” in a now deleted tweet from April 25th, 2018:
“You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought,” West tweeted.
Thank you Kanye, very cool! https://t.co/vRIC87M21X

Last Saturday, West appeared on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” as a musical guest, and in Kanye West fashion ended the show with an impromptu monologue while wearing his iconic red Make America Great Again hat – NBC just refused to air West’s speech.
NBC instead cut West off entirely, going to commercial when they realized he was beginning to make too much sense and stray too far from the “Democrat’s Plantation”.
West spoke about being pressured to not wear his MAGA hat on stage and how he was being bullied backstage:
“They’re laughing at me,” he said. “You heard them? They screamed at me. They bully me. They bullied me backstage. They said don’t go out there with that hat on. They bullied me backstage. They bullied me.”

John Billionson (@jbillinson) also called NBC out via Twitter for cutting the feed short:
“From Chris Rock’s IG story, looks like Kanye gave a speech after NBC cut the SNL feed”

“Follow your heart and stop following your mind,” Mr. West said. “That’s how we’re controlled. That’s how we’re programmed. If you want the world to move forward, try love. Thank y’all for giving me this platform.”
President Trump and spoke on West’s NBC appearance, tweeting,
“Like many, I don’t watch Saturday Night Live (even though I past hosted it) – no longer funny, no talent or charm. It is just a political ad for the Dems. Word is that Kanye West, who put on a MAGA hat after the show (despite being told “no”), was great. He’s leading the charge!”
